Martin Iglody's Timepiece Marries Celtic Art with Modern Watchmaking

Derived from the intricate knot designs of the Celts, dating back to the 3rd century, the Celtic Legacy watch collection is a tribute to the unity, faith, and protective symbolism associated with these historical patterns. The Celtic knot, a symbol of infinity, is a key design element, featured on the watch dial, crown, and back case. This artistic expression, combined with a sleek aesthetic, gives the timepieces a distinctive character.

The creation of the Celtic Legacy watch began on Iglody's desk in Ireland and was brought to life in China, with the watch movement sourced from Japan. The final product is a harmonious blend of various materials, including stainless steel for the case and crown, different types of color IP plating for the dials, indices, and watch hands, sapphire crystal for the top glass and part of the crown, and fine calfskin leather for the straps from Italy.

Technical specifications of the watch include a 316 L Stainless Steel case, a diameter of 40 mm, case thickness of 12 mm, and a Seiko NH72A gun metal grey skeleton movement with Cotes de Geneve rotor. The watch also features self-winding automatic, 24 jewels, frequency 21 600, running time 41 hours, and rose gold watch hands.

The design process, which began in June 2020, faced challenges in the production phase, particularly with the side cuts on the watch case lugs. However, these were overcome by making the cuts thicker to resist pressure and using cone-shaped polishing pads for the inner holes. The final prototype was completed in October 2021.

The Celtic Legacy watch collection is not just a timepiece but a statement of style and a nod to the Celtic era's cultural and artistic significance. The design has been recognized for its creativity and innovation, earning the Silver A' Jewelry, Eyewear, and Watch Design Award in 2022. This award is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise, innovation, and artistic skill.
